Short-term Mission Trips with HFC Christian Mission Program

We organize short-term mission trips for organizations or individuals who desire the life changing experience of being and serving in Haiti. The goal of the HFC Christian Mission Program is to glorify God by responding to His call to love and serve our brothers and sisters in Christ.  This happens in three ways during the experience of short-term mission teams, as God blesses the children and staff of HFC, the individual team members, and the sending church or fellowship.

The specific goal of each trip varies depending on the gifts of the team members, but could include:

  • English teaching to build upon the English the children are learning in school

  • Construction projects that enhance the school and orphanage facilities

  • Vacation Bible School or other Christian programs for youth in the neighborhood

  • Evangelism to unbelievers in rural mountain country villages

  • Home building for homeless families in the village surrounding the orphanage

  • Equipping and accompanying the children to do their own “mission trip” into their neighboring village (example: helping the HFC children share the gospel or gather water for elderly people).

Trips in 2007:

  • May 2nd - May 8th

  • June 23rd - June 30th

  • June 30th - July 5th

  • July 21st - July 28th

  • July 30th - August 10th

Frequently asked questions:

  • How long do HFC missions trips last? Most trips range from 8 to 12 days.

  • Where would we stay while we are there? Teams will stay in a guest house outside of Port-au-Prince.

  • Is the trip for groups only or can individuals go as well? We will do our best to accommodate individuals who are interested in going to Haiti with HFC by connecting them with groups who have scheduled trips.

  •  Are there Haitian nationals available to interpret and guide us?  There will be Haitian nationals who will meet you at the airport and stay with you throughout the trip to translate and lead your group.  You will always travel during the day and in groups.

  • What is the cost of the trip and how have teams done fundraising in the past?  The total cost of the trip varies depending on the number of people and transportation needed.  The rise in gas prices and overall cost of living have had a significant impact on the price of short-term trips, which can range from $1,250 to $2,000 per person including a roundtrip plane ticket.  Please consult HFC to help you calculate a more accurate estimate for your group. Each team is responsible for its own fundraising.  In the past, individuals have found support letters to be a successful way to raise prayer and financial support and HFC will provide you with sample support letters.  Some teams have also held successful group fundraisers including bake sales, concerts or dinners.

  • Why should I consider going on a short-term missions trip with HFC?  By being a part of a short-term missions trip, you will see God bless the children and staff in Haiti, individual team members, and sending organizations.

The children and staff in Haiti are encouraged by connecting with team members and witnessing the love of Christ who Himself loved us enough to come be with us in person.  They also benefit from the cultural exchange opportunity, hours of work, tons of food and supplies, and financial resources that teams provide.

Individual team members are often surprised at the extent to which they are blessed by joining a short-term team.  When we enter the daily life of our brothers and sisters in Haiti we are empowered to respond as Christ does throughout the gospels.  Our eyes are opened to see the people of Haiti as individuals with unique and complicated stories (John 4:16-18), our hearts are softened with compassion (Matthew 14:14), and we respond in thoughtful action (John 21:25).

The Christian Mission Program also serves the sending church or fellowship.  By investing in the lives of those outside of their immediate environment, communities deepen their understanding of the body of Christ.  The benefits of the leadership development and community building that missions trips engender last well beyond the end of the trip.

Every team is unique and will bring their own objectives to the trip as a group and individuals.  We look forward to seeing how God can use each person in unique ways to bring Him glory.
