WHO WE ARE
Hope for the Children of Haiti is a 501 (c) 3 organization which owns and operates
a Christian orphanage and school In Bolosse, an impoverished neighborhood in
Port-au-Prince. We currently care for 30+ orphaned children and provide top-quality,
affordable education to close to 450 children.
The school and orphanage are managed by Jean Alexandre who knows orphanage life first hand having grown up at the Caring and Sharing Mission in Haiti. He later served as the Director at that same mission. He graduated from the University of ASPA with a degree in Computer Science. He and his wife, Florence, have two lovely children. You can read his testimony in the Fall 2011 Newsletter. Under his direction,
the dedicated Haitian teachers and staff supervise the daily activities of the
school and orphanage.
HFC is governed by a U.S. based board of directors who volunteer their time and
are dedicated to seeing the mission of HFC realized. Board members are actively
involved in the operation of HFC, yet firmly believe in partnering with Haitians
to transform their culture for Christ.
OUR MISSION
Hope for the Children of Haiti is called by God to give Haitian children the
opportunity to become well-rounded adults who are self-sufficient in Christ.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
THE HISTORY OF HFC
The calling for the Hope for the Children of Haiti ministry began with Marion Austin, a woman of incredible
courage and determination, who, at the age of 67, decided it was not too late
to make a difference. After retiring from the US military with twenty years of
service as a diet therapist, Marion was determined Ònot to just sit around,Ó
and she began traveling to Haiti to help in whatever way she could. At first,
she planned a daily nutritional meal for more than 1500 children at a large Christian
orphanage. Eventually, she partnered with co-founder Dr. Jacob Bernard and they began the
process of starting a new orphanage by renovating a dilapidated school building. Through their dedication and
compassion, that building now stands three stories tall and is the home to Hope
for the Children of Haiti.

Marion passed away in 2005, but HFC continues her mission in the name of Christ.
Her legacy is perhaps best exemplified by PaulÕs words in 2 Corinthians 1:4:
ÒGod comforts us in all of our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any
trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.Ó
Marion strongly believed in empowering the Haitian children with the tools that
they need to succeed, knowing they would one day become excellent Christian leaders
and role models in Haitian society. MarionÕs story is an inspiration to all of
us who carry on her dream. |
