Hope for the Children of Haiti is in its 13th year of operation, having opened
its doors in April of 1996. Our children are now generally between the ages
of 12 and 17. We are intently focused on preparing them for adulthood. Although
some of these children will be going to adoptive families in the United States,
many will not. HFC is committed to providing whatever support is necessary
to allow them to become productive members of the community.
In a newly established program, we will be providing adult living skills such
as menu planning and meal preparation, managing money, first aid skills, sewing,
computer skills, athletic and art activities such as music, painting, writing,
and sports, and pre-trade school activities such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical,
and computer repair. Whether our children go on to higher education or attend
a trade school, we intend to provide them with the training they will require.
Over the next few years, as these children begin to leave the orphanage for their
new opportunities, we intend to bring in more children to take their place.
In addition, HFC has established an intern program whereby young Christian men
and women will have the opportunity to spend six months to a year working with
our children, providing spiritual, emotional, and academic support. We have had
six such interns work with HFC since the program was instituted, all who have
made a lasting impact on the childrenÕs lives.
It is also a priority for us to empower the children to reach out and serve the
community, to help those in need in the Bolosse area. This outreach will include
such projects as providing food to the hungry, assistance to the elderly, volunteering
at local clinics, etc. We want our mission teams to help us take our children
Òon missionsÓ in their own community.
Although the children are growing up quickly and will soon be young adults, our
work is not done. In fact, it is in a real sense just beginning. While the implementation
of new programs to aid in the transition plan will undoubtedly provide additional
financial challenges, we stand ready to move forward with this plan, keeping
in mind Luke 1:37, Òfor nothing is impossible with God.Ó Please visit the under
